Iskander (ISK)

Everything about the ISK core in one place: what's live, what changed, and what's next. ISK works like TXC but uses wallet path 969696 instead of 696969.

ISK nodes — network scan, 3 Nov 2026 12:57 UTC

Scanned from outside plus the main ISK node's own connection list. Tip at the time: block 125,315.

  • Only 2 ISK nodes accept public connections: the two seed nodes. No outside nodes were found — it's all ours.
  • The two seeds are still on 1.1.1; the main RPC node is on 1.1.2. Everyone is on the same chain.
  • The main RPC node only has 2 connections (both seeds). If both seeds go down at once, it's cut off — the upgrade should give the keepers direct links to each other.
  • Mining node [3] and isk_mempool_api are private and not visible from outside; their versions need a check on the box.
  • Four addresses in the monitor's auto-found list (Linode and Modat) are internet scanners, not ISK nodes.

Upgrade history

v1.1.2Block 58,016Required payout address enforced; optional node-auth; fix letting no-key nodes keep syncing.
v1.1.3 plannedBlock 125,544New payout address and LWMA difficulty smoothing; postponed 100 blocks, not installed or released. Send To Many deferred.

Next upgrade — plan

  1. Payout address change. Switch the required payout address to KLajK41L4iswXWwP3YckFePYRnxWNKCdtc at the activation block. Blocks before that keep the old address, so history stays valid.
  2. Smoother difficulty (LWMA). Same approach we shipped for TXC: adjust every block from recent block times instead of every 40 blocks. Tuned for ISK's 3-minute target.
  3. Send To Many. Port the TXC Omni bulk-send code (type 7) to ISK and test it on a private test chain first.
  4. Selected activation block: 125,544. Build Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 downloads and upgrade every node and the mining pool before it hits; postpone if rollout cannot finish safely.

Confirmed: we run every ISK node and all mining (our pool only), and we hold the keys for the new payout address. Fleet target: 2 nodes on AWS + 1 on DigitalOcean.

Upgrade 1 — v1.1.3: payout address + smoother difficulty (planning)

Status: postponed 100 blocks; not installed or released. Bobby moved both changes to block 125,544. The previous 125,444 build passed the final tests, including 151 private blocks; it must not be installed for the revised activation. The updated build still needs rebuilding and testing.

The existing private mining archive was built on Ubuntu 24.04. Ubuntu 22.04 compatibility has not been verified; check each target machine and prepare matching builds before installation. Mining-capable archives stay private. GitHub requires a pull request; the earlier publication scripts contain the superseded block and must not be run.

What it changes (4 files, 64 lines)

  • Adds a third payout address, KLajK41L4iswXWwP3YckFePYRnxWNKCdtc, that takes over at one chosen block.
  • Blocks before that block still must pay the current address — history stays valid.
  • The existing "whole reward must go to our address" check carries over unchanged.
  • Built-in node list: node1.iskandercoin.com, node2.iskandercoin.com, node-isk.honest.money (nothing else was in there). A mempool node will be added once it has its own node address.
  • Smoother difficulty (LWMA, same as TXC v0.26.1): adjusts every block from the last 60 blocks, aiming for 3 minutes, with a cap so one fake timestamp can't crash difficulty. Switches on at the same block as the new payout address; before it, the old 40-block rule is untouched.
  • Test network is untouched; the private practice chain switches at block 150 for testing.
  • Address checked: valid ISK "K" address with a correct checksum.

Good to know

  • The pool needs no settings change: the ISK node itself writes the required address into every block template, whatever address the pool sends.
  • Every ISK node must run the new version before the switch-over block. A node left behind will reject blocks paying the new address and get stuck.

Decisions to make

  1. Decided: v1.1.3 = payout address + smoother difficulty. Send To Many and a fresh checkpoint come later.
  2. Selected switch-over block: 125,544 for payout and LWMA. Postpone if all nodes and the pool cannot be upgraded in time.
  3. Version number: 1.1.3.

Steps once decided

  1. Apply the patch on a build box, test on a private chain that the old address is refused after the switch.
  2. Set the real block, push to blockchainmint1/iskandercoin, tag the release (GitHub token pasted, not saved).
  3. Build public (non-mining) and private mining downloads for Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04.
  4. Upgrade the mining node and the other keeper nodes, then confirm the first block after the switch pays the new address.
